Double Vision

The original “Doublemint Twins” were Jayne and Joan Boyd of Hammond, Indiana who appeared in advertisements for Wrigley’s Doublemint gum until 1963. (Wikipedia)

Foreigner also sang about it. Guitar hero added it to their video game repertoire and Burger King featured it in a 1990’s commercial.

Diplopia, commonly known as double vision, is the simultaneous perception of two images of a single object that may be displaced horizontally, vertically, diagonally or rotationally in relation to each other. It is usually the result of impaired function of the extraocular muscles where both eyes are still functional but they cannot converge to target the desired object. Wikipedia.org/wiki/Diplopia

In German New Medicine when observing diplopia (double vision) we always must rule out cataracts, corneal issues and the cranial nerve (oculomotor) involvement . Most cases of diplopia as well as wavy, squiggly lines in our field of vision, involve the eye musculature which responds to a biological conflict of fear.

It is upon reaching the EC or epi-crisis that we will experience the double vision.

Fear of what lies ahead, fear of not wanting to see someone, something, fear of losing sight of someone, something, fear of not being sure what to expect down the road, fear of what’s coming next, fear of something that one doesn’t want to look at or couldn’t bare to look at. Fear, fear, fear.

What is commonly recommended in order to unravel the causal mystery is to become mindful of what preceded the diplopia every time you experience it. What just happened? What were you just thinking? What were you just feeling? Keep a notepad or iPhone nearby to jot down your thoughts. After a few episodes you’ll often see a common thread – as that will be a track.

The absolute key to resolving double vision is the conquering of ‘tracks’ – unconscious triggers that can re-open the conflict, turning it into a chronic condition.

A client a number of months back shared with me that his diplopia would often appear at the most inopportune times – test taking. This was a high school student where quizzes, tests and exams are a weekly experience. He estimated that he experienced eye issues in one out of every fifteen quizzes, tests 0r exams. When we discussed the conflict it was clear that something about test taking was the trigger. I asked him to become mindful of three emotions that were associated whenever he experienced the double vision.

The three emotions he described were a) concern or fear of what others would think, b) fear of a loss of parental approval and c) fear of loss of privileges. As he became more conscious of what was going on in his awareness, a commonality surfaced…the subconscious fear that should he do poorly on this test he would lose his present athletic privileges. This jarred his memory and revealed the original conflict or dhs. When he was in fifth grade, he had failed a math test – a test that he needed to pass in order to remain active on his after school soccer program.

Tracks act as reminders that contribute the chronicity and recurrence of the double vision.Screen shot 2016-07-25 at 6.36.30 PM

At the moment of the biological conflict-shock, the psyche is wide open and processing billions of bits of information. The subconscious and five senses take a snapshot-in-time of everything in the ‘environment of the conflict.’

These recordings are imprinted and saved within the nervous system, until the conflict is resolved. The recordings that remain are referred to as tracks.

In biological terms, this serves as a warning. Their purpose is clear. To serve as a heads-up, as the last time this particular track or trigger was in the snapshot, there was a high alert event as a conflict shock involving fear was experienced.
As we gather more and more information about what triggers the diplopia, the original biological conflict will become clear. This is what I refer to as “reverse engineering” the biological conflict.

If a strobe light effect is experienced in the field of vision we are more likely dealing with the vitreous body.
